About the Author
Laura K. Guerrero has been at Arizona State since 1996 where she teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses on relational communication, nonverbal communication, statistics, and research methods. Her research focuses on communication in close relationships, emphasizing nonverbal messages, emotion, and the "dark” and “bright” sides of interpersonal communication. She is the co-author/co-editor of Nonverbal Communication in Close Relationships (Erlbaum), The Nonverbal Communication Reader, Third Edition (Waveland Press), Nonverbal Communication (Pearson), and the Handbook of Communication and Emotion (Academic Press).

Peter Andersen (PhD, Florida State University) is a professor at San Diego State University. The author of five books and more than 150 book chapters, research papers, and journal articles, he has received recognition as one of the 100 most published scholars in the field of communication.

Walid A. Afifi (PhD, University of Arizona) is professor in the Department of Communication at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he teaches interpersonal communication, relational communication, nonverbal communication, and social marketing. His research revolves around people’s experience of uncertainty and their decisions to seek or avoid information in relational contexts.

Excellent book. Although, the plastic wrap was off, it was still brand new and $30! The book itself is easy to comprehend. It is interpersonal communication but more focused on dating and sexual relationships. It is a very good book to use.

Do you know what tantra means or what it even is? If you didn't… don’t feel alone because I sure didn’t! As you might have guessed, tantra is originated from India. A hindi word meaning “the weaving expansion of energy”. Unlike casual sex, tantra is more rhythmic and slow motioned. Tantra sex is far more advanced, and leads to multiple pleasures and benefits. Regular sex is at the level of middle school, and tantra sex is at the level of post-graduate school. This analogy may not be the best, but it proves the point. In this book I learnt a step-by-step guide on what to do before, during and after tantra sex. If you are interested in boosting your sex life with whoever else, I definitely recommend this read.

Great buy for the price

Out of curiosity, I purchased this book. I didn’t know what Tantric or Tantra was, in the book it is described as “the weaving and expansion of energy”. I guess, as time goes by, sex almost becomes less intimate but with the book, it helps you learn how to keep the intimacy part going and fully connect with your partner. I find the book detailed and has lots of different positions to try out with explanations on how and why you would do it. Great buy for the price!!

Somit hatte die SED ein Monopol auf die Wahrheit, die immer im Sinne der Partei zugerechtgestutzt wurde und die zu keinem Zeitpunkt objektiv vermittelt wurde. Wie sie dies bewerkstelligte, soll nachfolgend behandelt werden. Ich möchte dabei zusätzlich auf den Aspekt der Beeinflussung durch die Westmedien eingehen, die über die Mauer hinweg ein tatsächliches Bild der Wahrheit in die Wohnzimmer der DDR brachten.

To this end, Schoenberg (UCLA) avoids the traditional "balls in an urn" approach to probability, and interestingly ties basic probability theory to Texas holdem poker. The content is challenging but thorough, and the reader needs to think through the poker realities as well as the related probability theory. Introductory chapters stress basic principles of counting, permutations, combinations, and conditional probabilities, but inevitably tie back to Texas hold’em hands. About the Author

Frederic Paik Schoenberg is a professor and graduate vice-chair of statistics at UCLA. He is also co-editor of the Journal of Environmental Statistics. He earned a Ph.D. in statistics from UC Berkeley. His research interests include point processes, image analysis, time series, and applications in seismology and fire ecology.

Interesting examples and nice explainations.

A good book illustrate basic probability theory using Poker examples. I am not a poker player but find it interesting learning probability with poker examples~ Better than those abstract examples.
Some mistakes do happen in editing. Hope a newer version with these errors corrected will be come out soon.

good breakdown of probability concepts

Enjoyed this book for the following reasons:

1) clear and unambiguous use of terminology w/ excellent explanations thereof;

2) discussed poker concepts and related them to probability in an elucidating manner;

3) touched upon advanced concepts and how they would apply, e.g., ballot theorem, etc.

Extremely limited use for Kindle Edition - PC or Mac Only

The contents of this book are great but why the hell is it only available for Kindle for Mac or PC and NOT cloud kindle, regular kindle? I mean, for the price, it should be much more widely available. I'm really unhappy with this situation and I hope the author and publisher agree to open this up for the other devices.

**Update** I've read through a good portion of the book now and done the exercises. It's a fantastic book. I'm limited in how I can view it so I don't plan on giving it more stars until that is addressed. The book starts off with the three axioms of probability and some great examples. From there the book references back to those axioms to show how further concepts in probability are built from them. Sticking with the game of Texas Hold'em is a great tactic because the reader becomes intimately familiar with the game and isn't trying to switch gears into other domains for every example. I have found this to be extremely useful in building up the knowledge meant to be imparted by the book.

I would say this book is worth 4 to 4.5 stars on content alone. The restricted format, though, has made it shockingly limited in what apps and devices can display it. For the price, the content is perfect. I just wish I didn't have to revive an old 15" laptop with an old version of Windows just to read it given I have Linux, Windows 8 and a 3rd generation Kindle...

Even better than book 1!

In this second installment of the Compulsions series we delve more into the relationship between Liv and Calum. Even though Liv is falling hard and fast and is pretty much obsessed with her need for Calum, her insecurity due to a past relationship trauma rears it's ugly head and because of it, she tries to put up walls that stand no chance against Calum. Calum's possessive, dominating, alpha side comes roaring to the forefront of his personality in this book. His obsession and need to be with and in Liv comes to a whole new level. We're talking some major sexy alpha-ness here!

But of course, nothing can be easy for these two. Calum's married ex-fiancé decides she wants to re-start their involvement and all, and I do mean ALL, of Liv's ex's and one night stands cross her path again. Even though Calum asks Liv to stay and talk things out with him if something goes wrong, instead of jumping to conclusions and shutting him out, he doesn't seem to be able to extend that courtesy.

A great, quick read with some seriously hot sexy scenes, that grabs you from word one, introduces angst from some of the other characters relationships and leaves you itching to find out what happens. Needless to say I can't wait for the next book!

The Good

Excellent series and excellent chemistry. Book 2 Compulsive Fascination lives up to the name and if I didn't know any better I would think the author is trying to get me addicted to this series. I can only say that this is my personal preference and how I like my books from time to time. Calum oozes sex, sex, sex, and more f***ing sex, he is that hot. His demeanor, the way he handled Livana, it was a turn on for me. Livana was not your typical weak female character but she does get weak around Calum. The author build a kind of hyped/ chemistry in book 1 Addictive Lunacy, that I had such a release in book 2. If you are a fan of this author I wouldn't only suggest reading this book but her other books because I have yet to be disappointed.

The Bad

I really have nothing bad to say about this book apart from the end.

Overall

Overall, I and you will get lost in this book, story and Calum and Liv's story. I promise you will be entertained and tickled in all the right places can't wait to read more.

In "Compulsive Fascinations" Calum & Livana take their relationship to a whole new different level.Both start fighting for sexual control,desperate for eachothr,needing to be claimed but letting their prides get in the way.Livana was dysfunctional due to an ugly past experience turning her into "Ms.Player Extreordinaire"...but then she falls for Calum and the lines are blurred.Her trust meter is broken and collides head on with the only man who has managed to break down her walls and fears.He consumed all of her rationality and she gave him complete ownership of her body.She believed that Calum had the power to heal her & let herself become raw and vulnerable in the process.But matters did not turn out as she had hoped.Secrets,lies and pride got in the way.Will they discover a way to mend their fences?This is a delicious erotic novella which will keep you turning from page to page!Hot,sizzling,inferno are only a few words that describe Calum and Livana's story!!!Can't wait for book 3!!!

great study guide

I think this is a must to get the most out of the Body of Evidence DVD series. We watched the videos once, then went back and filled in the study guide. This method seemed to help us understand and review all the great information that Dr. Menton presents.

The literature about visualization has become increasingly large in the past decade or so. Few is the author of some of the most important books about it, such as 'Show Me the Numbers', 'Now I See It', and 'Information Dashboard Design'. Signal, Fews fourth book, nicely integrates with the previous ones by covering something that is usually overlooked by most authors: How to use simple charts to get insights from the data. As it has become in Few's oeuvre, the book is well illustrated and written in a clear style

Great intro to visual analytics sensemaking & thinking clearly

This book offers a clear case for data visualization with believable business examples that show how to find signals in noisy data. The admirable clarity of Stephen Few’s writing tells lucid stories of how to look at data so as to produce actionable insights. Few is fearless in condemning big data excesses such as those who claim that “more [data] trumps better”, which Few labels as “an ignorant claim.” Few counters the big data pressures for volume, velocity, and variety (3Vs) by celebrating the virtues of small, slow, and sure (3Ss). The remarkable aspect of this book is that it provides a solid course in statistics, but it replaces mathematical formulas with visually compelling examples. It deals with means, medians, distributions, and correlations for numeric data and also includes spatial data with well-crafted maps. I’m pleased that this book also covers advanced visualizations such as treemaps, parallel coordinates, and coordinated displays with highlighting and filtering. It closes with ample references and a personal moral perspective about seeing the world more clearly.

This book is a most excellent way of learning how to find, communicate, and use information. If you need these skills and you don't have time to read a pile of textbooks, this is a good place to start.

Data analysis is taught anywhere, but data synthesis is a much rarer skill. With Signal we have a resource that covers both of these angles, is easy to use, and comprehensive in coverage. This is an excellent standalone guide but would also be a great overview to the subject prior to deeper studies.
