Excellent details

I realized that I really didn't know a lot about saddles and how they related to my horses. So when I saw this book and the fact that it was written by a DVM, I decided to try it. I was not a bit disappointed. The illustrations are very helpful and clear. The text is easy to understand and explains how each saddle part affects the horse and the possible problems that a bad fit or broken saddle can cause. You get good ideas of why your horse may misbehave while under saddle and how that relates to saddle fit. The book goes into some descriptions of saddle pads, but could be expanded. I was disappointed that girths aren't really covered. For the money, this is one of the best books in my library, to date.

This book was a required purchase for my Bachelor's degree in Equine Studies, but I have found myself picking the book up several times to refer back to it's knowledge. I will never get rid of this book for as long as I'm in the horse business.

A must-have book

Dr. Harman's book is worth its weight in gold for anyone considering buying a new saddle, or needing to evaluate the saddle they already have. She writes in a clear, easy-to-understand way about all aspects of saddles: their construction, how to evaluate fit for the horse AND the rider,where to find saddles,and selecting saddle pads. Her pictures illustrate and enhance the text. I'm very glad that I've added this book to my library.

They are arranged according to the 1928 Book of Common Prayer of the Protestant Episcopal Church in America, and are pointed for chanting.

A must-have for any Anglican/Episcopalian church music library!

Anglican chant is certainly the most beautiful forms of delivering the Psalms that we have today. If you are just starting out with Anglican chant or are a seasoned pro, you'll want to have this book within reach at all times! This is a collection of chant tunes that has been pointed and edited by George Guest using the Psalms as they appear in the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. While there are some differences in the text between the 1982 and the 1928, at a glance, they are all fairly minor differences.

The best part about this book is the quality of the chant tunes. They are elegant, tuneful, well-written, and generally avoid chromaticism. That said, the tunes--when executed properly--will be vibrant and full of life when sung to the text of the Psalms. As an added bonus, as a Spotify user, it's great to see that some of the chants that I've listened to on Spotify--and other music sources--appear in this book, and it's been fun to sing along!

The quality of the book, pages, and binding are excellent. The only drawback is that the book will not lay flat on a piano stand, so you'll have to be creative in how you work that out (I use a paperweight and it works well). The music engraving is very, very good: clear, easy-to-read, and well-spaced.

I'm fairly new to Anglican chant (really just started studying/singing it in the past 3 or 4 years), and the pointing is a bit different that what I've been used to seeing. If you have the The Anglican Chant Psalter, you'll see a few differences in how the pointing is done. There is a brief tutorial at the beginning of the book that describes how to read this style of pointing, and it's easy to get if you're at all familiar with other styles of pointing. If you've never done Anglican chant before, it might take a bit of figuring out. I'd suggest looking up the Psalm number and the composer of the tune on YouTube--if there's a performance, that'll be the quickest way for a newbie to catch on to how the pointing works.

I give this book 5 starts, for sure! It was very carefully put together and crafted with the utmost care from beginning to end. This will bring a lifetime of joy to those who use it.

Beautiful book, beautiful chants

The tradition of Anglican chant is one of the most lovely and satisfying aspects of the church music in the last two centuries. This book of psalms, collected and pointed by by George Guest contains a wonderful selection. It has also been beatifully produced by Paraclete Press,on high quality paper and in a large, clear format in which it can actually be used by a organist or singer(s). Even better, Paraclete also offers CDs of these same Psalms by Gloria Dei Cantores which potentially makes them even more accessible to a church music program or psalm lover..

I treasured a cassette tape of some of these psalms for many years. Now, I am very much looking forward to singing along.

An excellent gift item for a church musician or lover of the chant!

Gideon Greif is a researcher at Yad VaShem, Israel, the principal institution in the world studying the history of the Holocaust. He also was visiting professor at The Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies at the University of Miami.

This is probably as close as any general reader, student or researcher will come to a reality that even now, 60 years later, remains at once mysterious and horrifying - a must read for anyone interested in this period of time.

Superbly researched and documented: An invaluable resource.

To say the least, this is a very important work of historical research. Gideon Grief is a historian who has tirelessly worked to promote true and honest research about the Holocaust, at Yad Vashem, with the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum, and many other renowned universities as well as organizations that raise awareness of this subject. There are no exaggerations, just testimony and his historical research to make sure that omissions and mistaken memories, or dates, would not appear in the work. Grief's book is essential for two reasons, it is one that delves into the histories and psyches of the men who were forced to burn the bodies of those murdered at by the Nazis during their horrific "Final Solution," as well as the countless others, who were not Jewish, but were to be eliminated, murdered, and incinerated in the end. Let their memory live - Grief's book is a true tribute to all these victims.

Invaluable

There is no shortage of testimonies about Auschwitz -- thousands of people survived the camp. I've grown up with the stories from the survivors in my own family. But there are so few who actually survived as members of the sonderkommando. This was the most tragic place in the most tragic of places, and the long, frank, thoughtful testimonies offered in this book provide a glimpse not only into the Nazis' death machine, but also into the conflict and the horror these men experienced.
