Multiplication is the basic biological function of all organisms and is dependent upon replication of genomes. This is also true of plant viruses even though they possess a minimum of essential genetic information. Phylogenetically, replication-associated genes constitute the core elements of RNA virus genomes while other gene modules are considered as accessory elements. However, the biochemical studies on plant virus RNA replication were in their infancy even in 1999-2000. The picture has improved much since structural and sequence requirements of viral RNA replication, and synthesis are beginning to be understood, primarily because of the genetic, molecular, biochemical, and enzymatic studies conducted during the last six years. Certain virus-encoded essential proteins, nucleotide sequence motifs, and RNA secondary structures are central to virus RNA replication, which has a number of stages. Each stage is a complex phenomenon requiring specific factors and conditions. All this has generated much new information so that replication of plus-sense RNA plant viruses has now emerged as a rapidly developing field. However a lot of distance still has to be covered and traversing this distance could prove difficult because no one organised corpus of knowledge is available. Hopefully, this book fills the niche and generates understanding of multiplication of plus-sense RNA plant viruses, especially at molecular level. Nearly all the information on various aspects of plant virus multiplication has been collected, collated, and organized in eleven chapters spanning 332 pages so that this book comprehensively covers all facets of multiplication of plus-sense RNA plant viruses. Buy an older version unless you need online content

I recommend buying an old used version.
Maybe there are a few errors in those versions, but I doubt many.

Someone loaned me the fifth edition. It's identical. The questions are exactly the same. Why even make a "new edition" was there 1 piece of punctuation that needed changing somewhere?

Do not buy it if you think its different than the previous book. I checked the first page of anatomy questions from three versions and they are exactly the same. Shame that Kaplan does not sort or gives us different questions.

This is a pretty good book

This is a pretty good book. It seems to be focused towards the already skilled painter. I have just started in digital illustration and concepts so it can be confusing at times. Often it'll say things like "Refine your painting" which is an empty statement to new people. It shows step by step methods for various kinds of mechanical/futuristic things with instructions worded to allow the artist to create unique pieces. Good for both the digital illustrator and the old fashioned illustrator.

The Ga-Dangmes are Hebrews

Myself being a researcher regarding the Lost Tribes of Israel and producing works that connect the Igbo people of Nigeria to the Lost Tribe of Gad through Gad's sons Eri, Areli and Arodi I was very intrigued to come across this author and this work where he claims that the Ga-Dangmes of Ghana are also of Gad and Dan. Much of his work confirms and sheds more light of my own research. I personally contacted the author and to my surprise he believes that the Ga people are mostly from Gad's son Eri! This means the Ga and the Igbo are related and the author conformed that the Ga people passed through Igboland on their way to settle in Ghana and stayed with their Igbo brethren for a short period of time. This book is an invaluable resource for any who is interested in African and or Black History as well as those interested in the African connection to the Jewish and Hebrew people of Israel. The evidence is solid and most compelling. The work well written for the laymen as well as the scholar. somewhat disappointed

I bought this book because it seemed interesting and I liked the movie "American Gangster". The story is interesting, but the book was disappointing. It is rambling and not that well-written. The story romanticizes Pablo Escobar emphasizing what he did for Colombia's poor and downplays the fact that he was a ruthless drug trafficker whom people feared. But then again, it is written by his brother.

Legacy of a Legend

Longtime fans of Lauren Bacall and, of course, her famous husband Humphrey Bogart will delight in this autobiography. Ms. Bacall relates her happy childhood with a single mother in an age where this was highly unusual, the early days of her career as a model in New York, her struggle to catch that "one big break" as she pursues stage work in New York and becoming "The Look" in fashion modeling. She explains the "studio system" that placed such rigid control over almost every aspect of an actor's private life as well as their career, and the Svengali producer who gave her that "big break" by transforming Betty Bacall, Jewish girl-next-door, into glamorous Lauren Bacall.

Most people will probably pick up this book to read about (of course) her romance and marriage to screen legend Humphrey Bogart. Ms. Bacall doesn't disappoint. She writes frankly of their meeting, romance and courtship, and the near-scandal created by the divorce from his abusive, alcoholic wife to marry Betty/Lauren. Their marriage, extraordinary for a Hollywood that routinely chewed up marriages even in the early 20th century, was one of incredible devotion made all the more poignant because of its ending by Bogart's tragic death from cancer.

Ms. Bacall went doesn't flinch away from her passionate affair with Frank Sinatra or her disastrous second marriage to Jason Robards. She is diplomatic with her descriptions of life with Robards, attributing their divorce to his addiction to liquor, but still makes it plain that marriage was abusive. She relates her political activism during the shameful McCarthy era and her work for close friend Adlai Stevenson. Bacall speaks proudly of her children - two from the Bogart marriage and one with Robards - and their achievements.

Fans of Ms. Bacall, Mr. Bogart, followers of Hollywood fixtures and the film industry will delight in this deeply personal and historic autobiography. She and Bogart were founding members of the legendary "Rat Pack" and the mark they left on the motion picture industry hasn't, and won't, fade in times to come.

One of the first filmmakers to project an unabashed gay sensibility onto screen, Jarman creates here a montage of autobiography, interviews, and social history that shifts back and forth through time, resulting in an intriguing portrait of his personal and artistic growth from the 1940s to the present. Jarman is able to distill the essence of an era with just a few well-chosen anecdotes. He is outraged at what he sees as the complicit passivity of the British government's response to the AIDS epidemic; throughout, he drops the uncaring words of government officials like deadly bombs. Some readers may find his honesty brazen and offensive, but Jarman is truly a spokesman for his tribe, a teacher and a sage who, while staring death in the face, keeps his eyes open to report back with a deep understanding of what is important to the gay community. Derek Jarman in book form

If you can't get enough of Jarmen's films, you may love this book. It's hodgepodge: half autobiography/half manifesto. It reminds me of much output by ACT-UP and Q Nation members. (I guess it's called Outrage! in Britain.) Because the West has become less AIDS-phobic and gay-friendly, this book may feel incredibly dated. Because it is true to life, parts may make you uncomfortable. For example, Jarmen retells how he rejected a man once and I felt soooo bad for the guy. This book also mentions public lice, black and white female impersonators fighting and other stuff. This is not easy reading. Still, for those who love Paul Monette, Tony Kushner, Robert Ferro, or their kind, this will be a book that you may want to have or read.

Combustion in its heyday

This is third of a continuing series of books (1955, 1966, 1981, 1993) known in the trade as "The Combustion Book." It collects the commentary and insights from boiler experts at Combustion Engineering (today's Alstom Power). This book and a competing volume from Babcock & Wilcox titled "Steam" represent the collected wisdom of American solid fuel firing expertise at its peak.

The material is written at an easy reading level for an undergraduate engineering text. Only in the 'Combustion Processes' and 'Performance Design' chapters did equations sneak into the text. There, you'll want to be comfortable with easy differential notation. The book was written before the days of desktop computers and is not a repository of heat transfer equations.

Joe Singer organized and coordinated a writing effort that involved many senior people in more than a dozen engineering and research departments. Because it was written just before word processors became common, it represents a monumental integration of field experience and fact checking. It presents material considered public knowledge at the time, so it does not give the details of specific field failure risks.

At 866 pages plus 176 pages of appendices, "The Combustion Book" anchored many engineering shelves for nearly a decade until it was joined by a new edition of the rival B& W "Steam Book" at 825 pages plus 51 pages, with a larger page format and smaller type.
