Strong traditional Western

"Walt Durand " a U S Marshall, has a tricky duty to perform;he is despatched to the town of Red Cloud,Kansas on the trail of a fellow law officer,and personal friend "Larry Cramer "who has vanished while on a mission."Durand "finds himself pitched into the middle of a tricky and volatile situation.The town is in thrall to the charismatic but utterly ruthless "Matt Braden"and his gang of murderous henchmen ."Braden"is running a profitable horse stealing operation and when "Cramer"got on his trail had him killed.It is not long before another bone of contention arises between "Durand"and "Braden "as they become rivals for the affections of "Ellen Winston",daughter of a local rancher who is an antagonist of "Braden"
"Walt " must dispose of not only "Braden "but his main enforcer ,a stone killer named "Red Kane" but he finds allies in the form of the town Doctor,"Ellen "and her father and a Texas trail boss "Jim Wyatt ".The stage is set for an explosive and violent confrontation between the opposing sides.
There is plenty of rousing action and Grove shows considerable feel for the vivid landscape of the West.The result is a solidly entertaining novel,marred slightly by a slightly rushed ending.Genre lovers need have no qualms about reading this sturdy and well plotted Western
