Wedding planner meets surfing teacher...

Since the death of Conor's mam, he wondered around searching for answers as to what to do with his life. He'd always loved surfing, like his mam, so he took over a surf shop where he taught surfing lessons. During one of his lessons, a gorgeous spitfire of a woman comes storming down the beach demanding that he move his class down the beach...only she didn't ask nicely. Conor considered her request, but only if she said "please".
Madlyn doesn't like giving up control. She's been doing everything on her own for so long, it's made it extremely hard for her trust anyone enough to "give up" that control. She does say please and even finds herself turning around to accept an invitation for dinner. Conor is so laid back, that Madlyn doesn't think he could ever be "the one" as she also has a son who's depending on her. She keeps this and the fact that she's still living with her ex a secret from Con. When he finds out, he's upset that she still doesn't trust him enough to handle the complicated situation.
I really enjoyed this novel, but I thought Con had to work too hard to earn her trust. I understand she's a single mom, but he went to extremes to prove himself and even that almost wasn't enough. I'm a single mom and I know you're extremely protective of whom you bring around your children. You don't want them getting attached to someone who may break your hearts, but Madlyn almost goes to extremes with Jax. Conor begged to be given a chance with Jax, but she was sooo reluctant. It just seemed Conor was bending over backwards for her to FINALLY make up her mind. I smiled at the playfulness displayed between Con and Jax, then between Con and Madlyn. I'm glad she finally came around! If not, I was going to take Con for myself!!!
This novel is the second in the series. While it doesn't have to be read in order, I'm glad I have. I can't wait to see what Virna has in store for book #3!

Sweet love story

This really is such a cute love story about real life and family drama, and love that may not make sense but ends up working none the less.
Con and his brothers have all arrived in America from Ireland after losing first their father and recently their mother. Seeking more information about their mother's family they all settle in California. Con is a middle child in the family and truly struggling to find his way in the world when his mother had been the compass that kept him going before.
Madlyn is a wedding planner with a stressfull schedule and an annoying ex that still lives with her. When she practically attacks Con on the beach insisting that he move his young surf class to another location so as not to ruin a brides photos a most unexpected relationship begins to develop and grow.
But Madlyn is keeping secrets from Con that could destroy any chance of a future and although Con suspects what may be going on, try as he might to do everything right and give Maddie the time and space she needs, it doesn't seem to be enough.
I love the sweet and juvenile yet responsible relationship Con develops with Jax. He is quickly finding that he can trust his own compass and that his easy going lifestyle may be just what this uptight, overworked bossy lady needs in her life as well as her son's.
My only reason for giving this book 4/5 stars is because through the entire book we are never told how Con is able to afford all he does. It messed with my head a little considering he is much younger and comes across as a bit flighty. But knowing Verna DePaul's books as some of the best I've read and loving the first in this series I can't wait to read the next one.

Free spirit meets stressed single mom

This is the second book in the Home to Green Valley series. While it can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading the series in order. DePaul does not spend a lot time rehashing the plot of the previous book, but you will definitely get a better sense of all of the brothers and the circumstances that have led them to this point in their lives. This book is Conor's story. For years, Conor has been a free-spirit that just moves wherever with whoever while still maintaining close family ties. Obviously this was a sore point with Conor's father and Conor always felt he was a disappointment in his eyes. However, that all changes during a chance meeting on the beach. Maddie is Conor's complete opposite. In her, however, Conor sees everything he could be and everything he wants out of life. But Maddie isn't quite in the same spot in her life. She is struggling with a career, ex-husband, and most importantly her young son. Can these two opposites really come together? This was a great contemporary romance and I look forward to seeing what is in store for the next O'Neill brother!
